We’ve seen some great innovations out of Foursquare this year – and the momentum continues. With considerable activity taking place in the online restaurant and food delivery space, the mobile app is stepping up its game with its latest update that enables users to search for specific menu items to find nearby restaurants that carry them.

Foursquare partnered with Locu and SinglePlatform to serve menu data from thousands of restaurants in the app. More than 43 million menu items are now searchable, allowing users to quickly search for anything from gazpacho to fried plantains. The company points out that the tool is especially helpful for users with dietary restrictions, who run into challenges finding restuarants that serve foods they can enjoy.

Foursquare isn’t the first to launch menu item search. Last fall, YP launched a similar feature on its mobile app. With the local mobile search space heating up, expect to continue seeing more tailored and useful solutions like these for consumers.
